Have you visited Barrabool Maze Estate yet?
There sure has been a lot of talk amongst Geelong families about Barrabool Maze Estate. The whisper is that it is a bit of a hidden gem, but once you have discovered it, you will definitely want to come back again and tell everyone about it.
Geelong Living Plus is excited to share with you some of the key drawcards of this beautiful venue and why you must consider Barrabool Maze Estate as being “the” place to visit in the Geelong region with your friends and family!
A little background……
The 28 acre property in the picturesque Barrabool Hills was purchased by Wayne and Teresa Moodie four years ago. Teresa admits that the property was “in a state of disrepair” but they had fallen in love with its unique character. Since that time, Teresa and Wayne have worked hard to transform the venue into what you see now. Barrabool Maze Estate opened to the public on 14 February 2019.
Here are our favourite five great reasons for you and your family to visit Barrabool Maze Estate.
Definitely the drawcard, the large Hedge Maze is enjoyed by children and adults alike. Take your time to walk through and explore the maze. My kids especially enjoyed hiding from me and when they were successful in finding their way out of the maze again.
There are a few hidden secrets within the maze including a children’s play area with slippery slide. There are also two purpose built lookouts which provide you with the opportunity to admire the views of the maze, surrounding gardens and of course the beautiful backdrop of the Barrabool Hills.
Barrabool Maze Estate features a number of well designed garden areas with a range of different plants. These include cacti and succulents which are suited to the dry conditions of the Barrabool Hills. There are also a range of ornamental pieces which combine with Australian and exotic plants to create a beautiful oasis. A “must see” for those who enjoy admiring garden landscapes. The garden areas also provide many opportunities for some memorable photos such as for a special family event or wedding. A fantastic space for the kids to explore too.
Woods End Cookhouse @ Barrabool Maze Estate is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the surroundings and have a meal. There is a spacious indoor eating area with wood panelling and cathedral ceilings. The log fire is perfect for those cooler days. If you prefer to be outdoors, there is a covered deck area which has plenty of room for small and large groups to enjoy.
It is recommended that you book in for a meal to avoid disappointment (especially for larger groups) as the cafe gets busy. The menu offers a range of options. For lunch, why not enjoy a Steak sandwich or Nasi Goreng with Chicken Sticks. There is a sharing / grazing menu available all day which is perfect for small groups. An all day breakfast menu including Pancakes, Smashed Avocado and the Cookhouse Breakfast is available on Saturdays and Sundays. Kids are also well catered for with a choice of meals as well as colouring in sheets and pencils provided. The cafe is fully licenced and you can choose from a selection of local wines, beers and soft drinks.
Barrabool Maze Estate is a fun and unique place for families to visit. The kids will be kept entertained through exploring the maze and garden surrounds, the kids slide and lookouts and the spacious property. The venue is a popular place for family gatherings including birthdays with extended families. Bookings can be made to ensure you have ample space for your group. Family groups can relax while ordering meals or platters to have with a glass of wine or local beer while soaking up the spectacular views of the Barrabool Hills from the undercover deck.
