Geelong Living Plus shares our favourite 15 school holiday activities for September and October 2019.

It’s springtime in Geelong and we are counting down to the school holidays here in our household.

There are lots of great activities (both free and paid) across the Geelong region. So many fun places to visit to choose from. This can make it overwhelming for families in deciding what to do, while also being mindful of your budget. School holidays can quickly become expensive.

To make it easier for you- we have put together a list of our favourite 15 school holiday activities in and around the Greater Geelong region.

So, sit back…relax and have a look through. Tick off the ones you will put on your list and school holidays will be easy, stress- free and fun (well I can’t guarantee that of course but I wish you all the best!! Lol.)

SIMPLY HAPPY WELLNESS COACHING – BATH BLISS WORKSHOP

Simply Happy Wellness Coaching are conducting a school holiday Bath Bliss Workshop on Tuesday 24 September 2019. The workshop is being held at Creative Geelong from 10 am – 12 midday. Kids will have the opportunity to choose their favourite scents to create bath bombs, body scrubs and bath salts. Products used are natural and chemical free. The workshop is recommended for primary school aged children. Younger children need to be accompanied by an adult. Cost of workshop is $30 per child. Click here to make a booking. BARRABOOL MAZE ESTATE

Barrabool Maze Estate (pictured below) is a great place to visit during the school holidays. Located in the beautiful setting of the Barrabool Hills and offering a unique and fun day out for the whole family. Barrabool Maze Estate is open Thursday to Sunday from 10-4pm during the school holidays. Explore the amazing maze with the kids, enjoy the garden surroundings and relax. The hills are currently ablaze with canola which makes the scenery even more stunning. There is a licensed café on site too to enjoy a meal with friends or family. RAPUNZEL STORYTIME AND ACTIVITIES – CENTRAL GEELONG

Fun school holiday  session being held in GPAC Foyer (50 Lt Malop St) on Monday 23 September 2019. Kids will have the opportunity to meet Rapunzel, Fairy Good, Fairy Well and Fairy Nuff and other cast members. There will be colouring, some dancing and the chance to hear the traditional Rapunzel story. Suitable for kids aged 10 and under. There is a gold coin donation which will go towards Barwon Health. FAIRY PARK – ANAKIE

Fairy Park is open every day from 10am – 5pm during the school holidays. Ticket prices range from $12 for a child (aged 3-13 year) to $22 per adult. Located in Anakie, Fairy Park offers the chance for families to celebrate and share memories of your favourite classic children’s fairy tales and legends. There are over 20 animated scenes amongst buildings, castles and gardens for you to enjoy. There is food available for purchase and also a large children’s play area called Camelot Adventure Playground. For more information click here.

NAB AFL AUSKICK CLINICS – WESTFIELD GEELONG

Do you have a child who loves their AFL or would like to give it a try? Westfield Geelong are hosting free Auskick clinics for kids in Centre Court from 23 September 2019 until 27 September 2019. Its best to book to secure your child’s spot. Lots of fun, game based skills and activities conducted by Auskick coaches. For information and to make a booking, click here.

BOP TILL YOU DROP – PERFORMING ARTS WORKSHOP

A two school holiday workshop is being held by Bop Till You Drop in Geelong West. The workshop is suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years who are interested in a range of performing arts activities. Children will have the opportunity to increase their skills in singing, dancing, acting as well as some activities relating to arts and crafts, self- motivation and science. KELLY SPORTS GEELONG – SPRING HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Kelly Sports Geelong are running a School Holiday program with a different theme/ sport each day. These include Athletics, Dodgeball, Disco Party and Soccer. Suitable for children aged 5-12. LEGO BUILDING WORKSHOP- CENTRAL GEELONG

These school holiday  sessions are being held at Timezone Geelong on 30 September 2019. Kids have the opportunity to choose a mini figure and build a theme around this. Cost per child is $10 which includes $10 credit to use at Timezone. Bookings are required and children need to be supervised by an adult. To find out more and make a booking click here.

BASILS FARM – MEET AND FEED THE ANIMALS SESSIONS

Basils Farm is located in Queenscliff  and features a vineyard, farmhouse style Café, gardens and farm. Animal feeding sessions are held every Thursday for children under 12 years of age. There has also been an additional date (Friday 4 October 2019) added during the school holiday period. Animals include chicken, Llama and Baby Doll Sheep. Sessions begin at 10:30am and cost is $20 per child. This includes lunch and a drink. Adults accompanying children are free of charge. Bookings required. For more information click here.

UPCYCLED FUN CRAFTS – THE CAROUSEL

Join in the free sessions being conducted by Urban Upcycle on Wednesday 25 September 2019 and Wednesday 2 October 2019. Times are 11am – 1pm at the Carousel on Geelong Waterfront. Kids will have the opportunity to use a variety of recycled pieces to create their own masterpiece. Bookings are not required.

PLAY SCHOOL NURSERY TIME – NATIONAL WOOL MUSEUM

National Wool Museum  Geelong are running interactive holiday sessions for 2-5 year olds on Thursday 26 September. Session times are 10:30am and 1:30pm and cost is $10 per child (plus booking fee). One adult is free when accompanying a child. The session is focused around the “Happy Birthday Play School” exhibition and will include singing, craft and sensory games. GEELONG REGIONAL LIBRARIES – VARIOUS CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES

Geelong Regional Libraries will be conducting many different types of free sessions throughout the school holidays. These will be held at various library locations across Geelong. Activity sessions for younger children include Animal Bookmarks, Roar like a Dinosaur, Fishy Tales and The very Hungry Caterpillar. Check their website for recommended age suitability for these activities. Activity sessions for youth (ages 12- 18 years) include Movie Night, Alpaca Pocket Pals and Mindful Colouring. DAY OUT WITH THOMAS – BELLARINE RAILWAY

Book in for a family day out this school holidays with Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. This event by Bellarine Railway is taking place at Queenscliff Station on Saturday 5 October 2019 and Sunday 6 October 2019. Ticket prices include a 45 minute return trip on Oliver, unlimited rides on Troublesome Trucks, jumping castle and children’s maze, movie and story room and more. Food, drinks and souvenirs available for purchase. Tickets are $27 per adult, $27 per child (aged 4-17 ) and $17 per child (aged 1-3). Family ticket for 5 is from $110. Bookings required. TODDLER DANCE PARTY AND JUNIOR HOLIDAY WORKSHOP- KAREN FELDMAN’S DANCE STUDIO

Karen Feldman’s Dance Studio are hosting an Emma’s Toddler Dance Party this school holidays in Geelong. Sessions will be held on 25 September 2019, 26 September 2019 and 27 September 2019 across several locations  including Grovedale Community Hub and Vines Road Community Centre. Suitable for children aged 2-5 years. Cost is $20 per session which includes a dance class and class activity. Sessions run from 9:30am- 11am. Note there is a shorter session at Leopold- see website for details. Bookings required. The dance studio is also running School Holiday Dance Workshops with a Footy Fever Theme. FESTIVAL OF SPORT- KARDINIA PARK AND EVENTS GEELONG

Festival of Sport 2019 is a free community event for Geelong families this school holidays.  The event is held at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday 6 October from 11am- 4pm. There will be a range of family friendly activities and entertainment. These include skateboarding, kids triathlon and stand up paddle boarding. The Mik Maks will be performing and there will be Geelong Cats Stadium Tours. For more information click here.
